Podcast cover for the Curious Mind Podcast about the Psychology of Money. Featuring Joe Stephan.

The Psychology of Money and the Importance of Our Time

Wealth management often conjures images of numbers, spreadsheets, and bottom lines. However, at Stephan Independent Advisory (SIA), our perspective interweaves financial strategy with the fabric of personal joy and fulfilment.

On a recent episode of the Curious Mind Podcast with Vincent Dai, I delved into the philosophy and psychology of money. The idea that wealth isn’t solely about the accumulation of assets, but also about the enrichment of life’s journey.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, SIA is an Independent Financial Advisory firm that caters to a niche market: family-focused business owners and philanthropic families. Our approach to financial planning is unique, not just because we provide independent advice free from institutional affiliations, but also because we endeavour to infuse our services with integrity and heart.

During the episode, Vincent and I talked about the value of autonomy in financial planning. This approach doesn’t just spur business growth; it fuels personal fulfilment. By aligning SIA’s financial planning practice with ethical values, we have created a business model that positively affects our staff morale and client relationships. Success, as we see it, is defined by more than just financial gains—it’s about the legacy and community impact that one leaves behind.

The whole episode underscores the importance of balance. The pressures of wealth management can be overwhelming, but I can’t emphasise enough the significance of well-being, community engagement, and the rejuvenating power of hobbies. Life should include moments of joy and connection, not just wealth accumulation.

Vincent and I also explored Creativity  in this episode. As an avid music enthusiast, I have always been trying to blend my passion for music with my financial advisory expertise. I believe that crafting innovative financial strategies is like composing music, with each decision and plan contributing to a legacy that resonates with authenticity. A good example of the intersection of these two worlds for me is the It’s Never About Money podcast, where I get to engage in expansive and creative conversations about money and meaning with incredible guests.

We also address the paradox between wealth and happiness. It’s true that for many, more wealth doesn’t equate to more happiness. True fulfilment comes from aligning one’s career with passion and having control over one’s time. As you grow older, time becomes an increasingly precious commodity, so it’s important to maximise the sense of fulfilment from work as much as possible.

This episode doesn’t just explore financial advice concepts; it’s a life lesson in harmony. Hopefully, it’s valuable for those looking to construct a purposeful life that is wealthy in every sense of the word. We encourage everyone to compose our own life symphony, where wealth management and personal fulfilment are not just parallel melodies, but a harmonious blend that enriches every note of our existence.
